State-of-the-Art Dental Implants in South Los Angeles
At Crenshaw-Slauson Family Dental, Dr. William Faulkner is well-experienced in the art of dental implantation. Our office is furnished with cutting-edge equipment in order to provide our patients in South Los Angeles, who are missing teeth, with high quality restorative dental services.
How Dental Implants Work
Dental implants support restorations and are used to replace a single tooth or several missing teeth.
Before placing an implant, Dr. Faulkner first obtains precise images of your jaw and dental structures with our cone beam CT scanner. This method of imaging maintains our patients comfort while supplying our dentist with the most precise images possible. From porcelain to zirconia, we offer our patients a choice of restoration material to meet their unique needs and preferences.
The actual placement process involves a titanium post being carefully guided and inserted into the jaw. It takes an average of three to four months for the implant post to integrate with the bone, and once fully set, provides a stable anchor for a restoration, such as a crown.
In the case of an implant supported bridge or hybrid denture, two or more implants are strategically placed to support the appropriate prosthetic.
Using the Latest Placement Techniques
Modern dental implants have been used to replace teeth for many decades. During this time, placement methods have been adapted to accommodate the common challenge of patients who do not have enough bone volume to support the implant.
While Bone grafting is a proven method of augmenting the jawbone to assure a secure hold for the implant, there are now other techniques that can sometimes be used to place implants in patients who would not have been a good candidate in the past.
At Crenshaw-Slauson Family Dental, Dr. Faulkner makes use of the following approaches:
Hybrid Dentures are an innovative system that allows some patients who don’t have enough bone volume for traditional implantation have their missing teeth replaced with dental implants. This method uses a strategic placement of several posts to assure ideal bone integration.
Mini implants refer to a process that uses posts that are much smaller in diameter than traditional implants and require little or no downtime. This alternative is a more economical solution that may be appropriate for some patients.
Restored Aesthetics and Functionality
When used for single tooth replacement, this dental implantation is the ideal solution as it replicates the complete dental structure, from root to crown, and prevents bone loss in the jaw.
In the case of a bridge or denture, implants provide a stable bite and restore both the natural function of your teeth and the beauty of your smile.
Many of our South Los Angeles patients have chosen dental implants after becoming frustrated or embarrassed by their adhesive based dentures slipping or falling out when they eat, speak, smile, or laugh. Dentures supported by implants allow our patients to express themselves authentically and with confidence.
